CHEYENNE, Wyo. -- Bayside drummer John "Beatz" Holohan was killed early Monday morning in a traffic accident near Cheyenne while the band was on its way to Monday night’s concert in Salt Lake City.
Holohan, 31, of Dumont, N.J., was killed when the band's van rolled on Interstate 80 about 12 miles west of Cheyenne at about 3:09 a.m.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol said the interstate was wet and icy after snow flurries at the time of the accident. The van was pulling a trailer loaded with band equipment when the accident occurred.
Bass player Nick Ghanabarian was seriously injured. Singer Anthony Ranieri and guitarist Jack O'Shea were not injured seriously and were released from a hospital in Cheyenne. Scott D. Robinson, 23, and Daniel Marino, 26, were hospitalized. They are members of the band's crew.
Ghanabarian and Marino broke their backs in the crash, according to reports.
Holohan and Marino were ejected from the van when it rolled, investigators said.
The East Coast band, currently on the "Never Sleep Again" tour, was driving from Boulder, Colo., to Salt Lake City for a Monday night concert. That performance was canceled as well as upcoming shows in Boise, Idaho, Seattle and Portland, Ore.
